Austria and Czech Republic will organize the 2011 Men's Senior European Championships!

Madrid, September 27, 2008. The delegates that gathered in the Salon de los Tapices, venue of the XXIX CEV General Assembly, were all anxiously waiting for the announcement of the organizer appointed by the CEV Board of Administration for the staging of the 2011 Men’s Senior European Championships.

The five bids were proposed to the attention of the CEV BOA for the last time this past Thursday and a very tough decision was handed over to the Board members. CEV President stated: “We were very happy because for the first time in the history of this competition we received many applications and all the various delegations worked very hard in order to prepare their respective bids. The Board needed two rounds to finally appoint the organizer of this competition”. Some tension was rising among the delegations involved into the bidding whilst CEV Internal Auditor, Mr. Michel Henno, was controlling the respect of the correct voting procedure.

And the winner is… the joint candidature of Austria and the Czech Republic!!! The 2011 Men’s Senior European Championships will therefore take place in four different cities, namely Prague and Liberec (CZE) plus Vienna and Innsbruck (Austria).

Mr. Peter Kleinmann, President of the Austrian Volleyball Federation, commented: “I am still a bit nervous, I can only tell you that I am happy to have this chance and as our motto sounds we will play this Championship in the heart of Europe to bring volleyball into the heart of the people!”

Mr. Antonin Lebl, President of the Czech Federation, added: “We already welcome you and guarantee we’ll organize a big event”.

The General Assembly also confirmed the appointment of a few more international competitions for the years to come, starting with the 2010 Junior European Championships for Men (Mogilev and Bobruisk, Belarus) respectively Women (Zrenjanin and Niš, Serbia), the 2011 Boys’ and Girls’ Youth European Championships (Turkey, competition venues to be defined) and the 2011 Women’s Senior European Championships, which will be jointly organized in Serbia and Italy (Belgrade and Monza).
